Autism Later in Life

Autism later in life brings new difficulties to the people who have it. Ageing, retirement, changes in health condition and changing social roles affect many later in their lives. Many adults with autism have developed steady routines in their lives, an ability to manage social difficulties and even to handle sensory disturbances. However, large changes in their lives such as retirement, deaths in their family or steadily declining health condition, increase stress levels and make autistic characteristics more evident in a person. Thus, some people may first receive an autism diagnosis later in their life as they discover similar symptoms in family members or after family members express concerns. The diagnosis of autism can therefore allow a better understanding of the person's experiences and help them receive access to adequate support and practical strategies for their daily life.

To receive the right support and diagnosis even at an older age is crucial for the psychological wellbeing of the person, but also for the people around them. For this reason, we also offer individualized diagnosis of Autism and ADHD in older people.
